Medical Camp in Bufula, Jinja - May 2025
It is with great joy that we share the news of our medical camp that we conducted in Bufula on Saturday the 25th of May. Dr Bakanwa was joined by fellow doctors and volunteers who were able to offer diagnosis and treatment to many people, in particular mothers and children. Approximately 130 people were diagnosed with various illnesses, and 70 were able to be treated. Even though diagnosis is a vital part of medical care, in the future we wish to be able to treat everyone that we diagnose so that we can comprehensively provide for the people that we serve. Due to limited financial resources, we have had to make difficult decisions on which illnesses we can treat and which we cannot. With God’s guidance, we hope that in the future we will be able to provide treatment at the same scale at which we can undertake diagnoses.
Full details of the camp are listed below:
37 mama kits were distributed.
15 pregnant mothers tested positive for malaria and received treatment.
3 pregnant mothers were diagnosed with UTI.
28 adults (20+ years) were found to have hypertension but did not receive medication.
7 adults were diagnosed with diabetes but did not receive medication.
41 children tested positive for malaria, and 10 of them also had upper respiratory tract infections and received treatment.
7 children were diagnosed with tinea capitis (scalp fungal infection), and 4 received treatment.
30 people were diagnosed with ulcers, but only 10 received full medication.
The camp was conducted on the site of our clinic, where construction is ongoing. It is important for us to continue to serve the community even whilst we have been focusing on finishing the building which will be our base of operations in the future. With this mind, we thought it best to conduct the medical camp in the place where we will serve the community in the future, bridging the ongoing construction with our continual medical provision.
It is through God’s grace that we have been able to do this and we look forward to the future where we hope to continue serving the people of Jinja. Thank you all for your prayers and help. God bless you all.
