End of year Report - December 2025

Season’s greetings from all of us at Ja Ja Morris Christian Hospital!

As the year comes to a close, we bring you a report outlining the work that Ja Ja Morris has been doing throughout the year. Although reports such as these are only published intermittently, we continue to serve those who need it most even if that means that many stories go unheard. Therefore, at the end of the year, we wanted to bring you some personal stories of those who have benefitted through the grace of God and your generous contributions. This is all made possible because of the hard work of those in the community led by Dr. Derrick Bakanwa.

Individual Stories: Kagoya Kagoya Hawa

Below is the story of Kagoya Kagoya Hawa in her own words:

I am Kagoya Kagoya Hawa, fifteen years of age from Kisambila village in Kamuli district. I used to live happily with my father, mother, and elder sister until one fateful day when my mother died during childbirth when I was seven years old. That was the beginning of my suffering, my worst nightmare.

My father later became a drug addict and could barely provide food at home, even basic needs like clothes and soap. Paying school fees became a struggle. I would study for one term and stay home the next.

Because of this situation, I started accepting gifts and money from boys in order to buy my basic necessities. In the end, I got pregnant. When I told the boy responsible, he asked me to have an abortion, but I refused because I was scared of dying just like my mother.

At that moment, I was completely devastated. My only remaining hope was my father, but he also threw me out of his home, telling me to go and marry the person responsible for my pregnancy. By then, the boy had fled to a far district, and I could no longer contact him.

I felt like my world had fallen apart and my dreams had been shattered. I sought refuge at my late mother’s friend’s home. However, she is also a single mother struggling to earn a living. She survives by digging for people just to get food.

I am now nine months pregnant, yet I did not even have a birthing kit (Mama Kit), baby blankets, or onesies. Even getting a proper meal in a day is a miracle.

However, I am grateful that a ray of hope has come my way through Ja Ja Morris Christian Hospital. I have received a Mama Kit and baby blankets for my unborn baby items that are essential during childbirth.

My hope has been revived, and I now look forward to better days ahead. My dream is to complete my education and become a midwife nurse so that I can help other girls who are going through situations like mine.

Individual Stories: Gift

Gift is a 2-year-old girl who was born with a club foot and has been struggling since birth. Her mother approached Dr. Bakanwa seeking help, hoping that something could be done to improve her daughter’s condition.

Through support and commitment, we were able to take Gift for bracing and casting treatment. We thank God that she has shown significant improvement and her foot is gradually correcting, and she can now stand and move better than before.

Gift’s treatment journey is expected to last about five years, and she has already completed nearly one year of it. With continued care, love, and support, we believe she will walk confidently and live a full, healthy life.

Individual Stories: Nakagolo Mirabu

Nakagolo Mirabu was born with retinoblastoma (eye cancer), a condition that brought deep fear and pain to her family. Through the compassionate support and initiative of Ja Ja Morris Christian Hospital, she received full treatment and care.

Today, Mirabu is healthy, joyful, and full of life a beautiful reminder that hope and healing are possible.

Your love and generosity make miracles like Mirabu’s story a reality. Thank you for standing with us to bring light and life to children in need.

Mama Kits

During his work in and around Bufula, Dr. Bakanwa discerned an urgent need for Mama Kits for many mothers in order to ensure the safe delivery of their babies. Therefore, in December we were able to distribute 15 Mama Kits which contain essentials that will help these mothers to have a safer pregnancy. This not only provides the material conditions for safe births, but also peace of mind for the mothers to know that they will be able to have clean and hygienic births.

Construction Update

Finally, we are delighted to note the progress of the construction work that has taken place during the year. Whilst our clinic is not yet finished, we have taken strides in the development of its construction and hope to see its completion in 2026. Below are some photos of the clinic in recent weeks, and we are pleased that much of our outreach has taken place in and around the structure cementing it as a pillar of the local community, despite it not yet being completed.

Thank you for all of your support this year whether it be prayer, words of encouragement, or financial contributions. We have been able to serve hundreds of people and hope to see God’s work continue in transforming the community of Bufula in 2026.
